Who to target with the NPS question... the right people...

Hey all,

 

Someone had previously posted a question on Who to Poll... and the response was a Decision Maker, an End User (influencer) and someone else with a target company,

 

Wouldn't asking anyone other than the "Decision Maker" automatically invalidate their contribution to the score? If the question is around promoting the company to a friend/colleague, to me that implies that there is a pre-existing network whereby the individual that is being polled can leverage, in the case that they are a Promoter. I fail to see the value or the link between getting a Promoter Score and the associated (and assumed) new business growth it we aren't solely targetting those "Decision Makers" who can influence others within their circles to also do business with a company. I feel that this is less a problem for companies focused on comsumer goods...like Apple, SouthWest Air, etc... but if you are a Services/Solutions business then in my mind it makes more sense to focus the question on the "Decision Makers" at the companies we support to determine if they would indeed recommend us to their peers in the business.

 

I work for a Technology Solutions and Services company... we could be exceeding expectations from a tactical level... and get 9 or 10 from the folks who send us requests for quotes and Purchase Orders... but what really seems to matter most is being able to solve problems at the strategic level... those are discussions with CTO, CIO types or Director of Purchasing...
